I was at a feature-minimization meeting for a new software utility today. It involves digesting a lot of feeds, and we’ve made the semi-obvious decision to store all the data indefinitely. One of the engineers asked, “what will we ever do with the data?”
@toddsampson immediately came out with, “We’ll stash it in S3 as flat files until Amazon Simple Search comes out. They’ll have some cheap/easy way to index it and include it in our app.”
The thing is, I bet Todd’s right.
[I’m eschewing full-time work for the next ~6 months due to some family stuff and focusing on part time gigs and helping hack together a couple new projects like the one alluded to above.]
